Spring Cleaning Your Outdoor Hot Tub Installation

Woman feeling the water in her hot tub.

Even though Anaheim’s weather is temperate year-round, your hot tub — not to mention your entire outdoor living space — can still get grungy. And who wants to head into the warmer months with a dirty spa and yard?

Here are the steps to take to get your backyard ready for summer.

How To Clean Your Hot Tub

1. Start with the Cover

Begin by removing the cover from your hot tub and wipe it well with a damp rag before applying a non-abrasive cover cleaner across the entire surface. After letting the cleaner sit on the cover for a few minutes, wipe it clean with warm water.

The suns rays in Anaheim can be quite strong, so, if you don’t use a cover cap, apply a vinyl protectant. This will keep it supple and free of cracks while also providing UV ray protection.

2. Replace Filter

Spring is the ideal time to replace your spa’s filter. Most filters need to be replaced yearly, so making that part of your spring cleaning process makes sense. If your filter isn’t a year old yet, you can give it a good cleaning instead by spraying between each fold of the filter with a hose.

3. Drain and Clean

Your spa should be drained three times a year — four if it’s used heavily. Once your spa is empty, wipe it down using a damp cloth. Next, use a non-foaming cleaner to give the shell a gentle scrub. Once again, make sure you use an actual hot tub cleaner to avoid damage that household products can cause to your spa.

4. Refill and Balance

Once your spa has been thoroughly rinsed, refill it and test the water. Adjust the levels if necessary with your spa chemicals.

How To Clean Your Patio Furniture

You hot tub isn’t the only thing that can get dusty and dirty. Spring is also a good time to clean your outdoor furniture.

1. Wash or Wipe

Most styles of furniture benefit from a good cleaning with warm water and mild soap, although for wicker, an oil-based soap is best. With wood furniture, wiping with a damp cloth is the way to go.

2. Update

Once your furniture is clean, check to see if it needs a refresh. Wooden furniture can benefit from a light sanding and a new coat of stain while wicker, metal or iron can receive a makeover with a good coat of spray paint. Cushions should be brushed free of dust and stains can be spot cleaned.

Clean Your Barbecue

1. Safety First

If you have a propane or gas barbecue, make sure it is turned off and disconnected before any cleaning starts.

2. Soak Parts

Put your grill, grates, grease pan etc. in a bucket of hot soapy water and allow them to soak.

3. Scrub and Wipe

Next, use a metal-bristled brush to scrub the hood and sides of your barbecue. We recommend donning work gloves to protect your hands. Next, wipe the walls and hood with a damp cloth.

4. Scrub Some More

Remove the grill, grates and other pieces from the water and use the grill brush to scrape away grime.

5. Spray and Dry

Hose down all of the parts to rinse away soap and then dry them off to prevent rust.

With your outdoor living space spic and span, you’re ready to enjoy the spring and summer months to the fullest.
