Top 5 Hot Tub Games & Festive Ideas for Your Next Family Party

Family playing hot tub games in their Sundance Spa.

We all know hot tubs are a great way to enjoy backyard parties with friends and family. But hot tub parties can sometimes be quite difficult for families when the kids want playful activities that are more appropriate for their own age groups.

Don’t give up yet though! There are plenty of entertaining things you can do together without anyone feeling bored or left out.

The Best Hot Tub Party Ideas

We’ve compiled some of our favorite hot tub party ideas and games for families to find common ground while bonding and having a great time together. And it doesn’t matter how old you are, these ideas are perfect to lighten up any special family gathering.

Let’s get into it, shall we?

Hot Tub Movie Night

Take your weekend movie night to the next level by moving it from your couch to a hot tub. Set up a projector and screen in your backyard, and cozy up in your hot tub with a tub of popcorn.

Bring out your comfy lounge chairs and towels, or even bundle up in some blankets for pleasant outdoor viewing. Your backyard spa filled with hot water, bubbles, and each other’s company is the best way to catch up on Netflix with your family.

Backyard Dance Party

Get grooving with your favorite tunes, and turn on the hot tub. Put up some disco lights or fairy lights in your backyard to set the mood, and then put on your dancing shoes!

A hot tub party is a fantastic opportunity to show off your best dance moves or just shake loose with your family after a long day. You can also bring out some glow sticks for an extra dance-worthy glow.

And hey, you don’t always have to listen to upbeat songs or party music. Sometimes, you can even sit back, decompress, and listen to your favorite podcasts or audiobooks as a family.

Hot Tub Spa Night

Make it a spa night by soaking in your hot tub for 15 minutes before bedtime. The hot water and jets will help to relieve your sore muscles and induce deep sleep, leaving you relaxed and ready for dreaming.

You can also try face masks, DIY creams, and massages while unwinding in your hot tub. Just make sure to clean it thoroughly when you’re done to get out any residual cream or lotions.

Before and after your next spa night, be sure to check that the hot tub is clean and running properly!

Hot Tub Yoga & Meditation

Meditating in hot water helps you get into a mindful thinking space where you let go of your stress and rejuvenate your senses. Try hot tub yoga for a warm, soothing way to tone your body and build strength.

Turn on some calming music, light scented candles if you like, and get into your hot tub. Sit upright, close your eyes, and take deep breaths in and out. Focus on the hot water around you. Focus on the sounds of the hot tub’s bubbles popping and the jets streaming.

A few minutes of this will leave you and your kids feeling refreshed and ready to get on with your get-together.

Hot Tub Barbeque

Barbeques are a party staple, but there’s no reason why hot tub BBQs can’t be even better.

Some menu ideas for your parties include cold dishes like celery sticks with peanut butter, strawberries, and cream, chopped veggies mixed together in a bowl, fruit-cheese skewers, and summer rolls.

If you’re just starting off your hot tub BBQ spree, it’s best to keep the menu light to avoid feeling queasy. But if you’re going to have dinner after a restful soak, then you can go for some heavier munchies like hot dogs, burgers, mac and cheese, pizza bites, or chicken wings.

For desserts, try hot fudge sundaes or hot cocoa in mugs with marshmallows or whipped cream on top. If you’d like to get fancier for your hot tub party, go for a chocolate fondue with strawberries or apple pie shots in mini-mason jars.

Hot Tub Game Night

The hot tub is the perfect place to bring out some fun games that will interest both children and adults alike. You can try the usual games like ‘Charades’, ‘21 Questions’, or good old-fashioned cards (make sure to get the waterproof kind that is widely available these days).

Or you can try some hot tub-themed twists of your own, like

  • Hot tub Bingo- Put a different hot tub-related word on each free square, like “bubbles”.
  • Hot tub Pictionary- Take turns drawing clues with waterproof markers or cards.
  • Hot tub Twister- If your hot tub is of the appropriate size, place a twister mat on the floor and start playing.

Our Top 5 Hot Tub Games

Here are 5 of the best hot tub games that you can play with your family to have some delightful quality time together —

1. Who am I?

To play this classic game in your hot tub, get some water-resistant cards or name tags. Write down the names of famous personalities on each of the cards, one by one. Remember to have more cards than the number of players in the hot tub, so that it isn’t too easy to guess.

When you’re playing with kids, make sure to write down famous names that they’re also familiar with.

Place the cards in a hat/cup and shuffle well. Have the players take turns drawing one card each from the hat, holding it up to their foreheads, so that everyone else can see the name. And then, each player has to guess the personality by asking yes-or-no questions like “Am I female?” or “Did I work in television?”, to which the others answer.

Once each of you has guessed who they are, the next person can draw a card and start playing.

2. Two Truths and a Lie

One person starts this hot tub party game by telling two truths and one lie, such as “I went ice skating last month”, “I ate a whole turkey today”, and “I’ve been to Europe”.

The rest of the players then have to guess which statement is the lie. Those who guess correctly get 10 points each and the player with the highest score after three rounds wins.

This is a game that’s enjoyable for adults and kids since it’s easy to keep it family-friendly and still make it really interesting.

3. Hot Tub Musical Chairs

This hot tub game is your unique twist on a regular game of ‘Musical Chairs’, that your kids will surely like.

If there are 5 of you in a hot tub with 5 water jets, turn one of them off. Now, play some upbeat music and start moving inside the hot tub, in a clockwise direction.

When the music stops, everyone has to be sitting at one water jet, and the player who doesn’t is out. Keep playing by turning off one jet for each eliminated person until there’s only one winner.

4. Hot Tub Juice Pong

This game is your kid-friendly twist on beer pong that you can play right from your hot tub.

To play this hot tub game, you’ll need to have plastic cups (one for each player) filled with a drink of your choice. You can go with non-alcoholic drinks like juice, punch, soda, or even water, to keep yourselves hydrated. Line up the cups on the hot tub ledge or a table nearby, and write each player’s name on their corresponding cups.

Now give everyone 2 ping pong balls, and get started!

Each player has to take turns tossing a ball into one of the cups. If they make it in, the other hot tub guests have to take a drink. And if they miss twice, they take a drink. Of course, you can always switch up the rules as you like.

5. The Voice- Hot Tub Edition

If you want to get your inner rockstar going with this fun hot tub game, here’s how you play.

Start from one person, maybe the loser of the previous game, and keep going in a clockwise direction. The first person starts singing a few lines of a song. When they stop, the next person has to sing a line that starts with the last word sung previously.

If they can’t come up with something, you can impose penalties for laughs, like getting a cold water balloon thrown at them. Or they can be in charge of getting the next round of snacks ready.
